India’s First Minority Cyber Village was Inaugurated in Rajasthan

  1. India’s first Minority Cyber Village was inaugurated by the Minister for Minority Affairs K Rehman Khan in Chandoli in Alwar district of Rajasthan. Chandoli has been selected as the first village for the pilot project as it holds more than 80 percent of minority population and also because the minorities of the Mewat region is still backward in education.
  2. Central Zoo Authority selected the Indira Gandhi Zoological Park (IGZP) of Vizag for creation of a conservation breeding centre for the endangered wild dog – Dhole. This will be the first zoo in India to have a breeding centre for Dholes and it will be created in two to three months.
  3. Taj Mahotsav, the ten day annual festival began in Agra, Uttar Pradesh.The festival will be celebrated from 18 to 27 February 2014 at the Shilp Gram, the Eastern gate of Taj Mahal. The theme of the festival for this year is Paigham-e Mohahabbat or the message of love.
  4. Social media giant Facebook Inc acquired WhatsApp for 19 billion dollars in a cash and stock deal. Whatsapp is a mobile messaging company. WhatsApp co-founder and CEO Jan Koum will join Facebook Board of Directors.
  5. Hindi writer Amar Kant died due to ill health at his residence in Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh. Kant received the 45th Jnanpith Award in 2009 and also won Sahitya Akademi Award for his novel.
  6. Hamid Ansari, the Vice President of India released a book entitled Public Issues Before Parliament written by Vijay Darda at a function in New Delhi. The book is a summarization of the significant contributions made by Vijay Darda during his stint as a Member of Parliament.
  7. Worldfloat, a social networking site announced that it had introduced e-commerce feature named Citydeals that would take on the major players like Flipkart, Snapdeal and OLX in discount deals market.
  8. West Bengal government and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) launched a campaign on to educate people about safe drinking water and safe sanitation practices. The week-long campaign will be observed from 20 to 25 February across all the districts, blocks and gram panchayats.
  9. India and Bahrain signed three agreements in New Delhi during the state visit of Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of Kingdom of Bahrain to India. The two sides signed the agreements with a decision to expand their cooperation in key areas that includes trade and business.
  10. Bubba Watson won the Northern Trust Open at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California, USA. This is his   first title since 2012 Masters where he won the 6.7 million US dollar and fifth US PGA Tour title.
