Abdul Basit Appointed High Commissioner of Pakistan to India

  1. Pakistan appointed Abdul Basit as Pakistan’s high commissioner to India. He is currently working as ambassador to Germany. From May 2012, he was representing Pakistan in Berlin.
  2. First pro-Hindi political party of Tamil Nadu was launched by Madras High Court Advocates Association in Tamil Nadu. The party Tamil Maanila Katchi  favours a pro-Hindi stand.
  3. Popular Carnatic music, Vocalist Rudra Krishna Srikantan, 94 died due to chest congestion in Bangalore. His biography named Voice of Generation was released in January 2014 on his birthday.
  4. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kingfisher Airlines Sanjay Aggarwal resigned. He had joined kingfisher Airlines on 30 September 2010.
  5. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved the Centrally Sponsored Scheme for Renovation of Medical Colleges. The Scheme covers both the existing State Government and Central Government medical colleges.
  6. ONGC Videsh Limited (OVL) signed Production Sharing Contract (PSC) for two shallow water exploration blocks SS-09 & SS-04 and extraction in Bay of Bengal of Bangladesh. This contract can be considered as a significant milestone in India-Bangladesh relations.
  7. Bharti Airtel has completed the agreement to take over Loop Telecom. The deal will give Airtel an additional three million customers and make it the largest mobile operator in Mumbai.
  8. A new layer in the human cornea was discovered by the Indian doctor Harminder Dua at The University of Nottingham. It plays a vital role in the structure of the tissue that controls the flow of fluid from the eye.
  9. Indian batting icon Sachin Tendulkar and Virendra Sehwag were nominated amongst the nominees for the ESPNcricinfo@20 Cricketer of the Generation award.
  10. New Zealand won the two match Test Series against India 1-0 as the second match played in Wellington ended in a draw. Brendon McCullum, the skipper of the team of New Zealand in the second test match created a history by becoming first Kiwi player to score triple hundred.
