M Teresa Kho : Asian Development Bank (ADB)’s New Country Director for India

  1. M Teresa Kho was appointed as Asian Development Bank (ADB)’s new Country Director for India. Asian Development Bank was established in 1966 and is headquartered in Manila.
  2. Senior IPS officer Rakesh Maria who has headed probes into the 1993 Mumbai blasts and 26/11 attacks, will be Mumbai’s new police commissioner.
  3. China announced a plan to build the longest underwater tunnel of the World. Water tunnel will be constructed beneath the Bohai Sea. The 123-km long underwater tunnel will connect the port cities of Dalian in Liaoning province and Yantai in Shandong province.
  4. The 17th Round of talks between India and China on the Boundary Issue was held in New Delhi. The Special Representatives of India and China on the Boundary Question was represented by National Security Adviser of India, Shivshankar Menon and State Councillor of China, Mr. Yang Jiechi.
  5. G-4 Director Generals for UN Affairs met in New Delhi. During the meet, the four G-4 nations namely Brazil, Germany, India and Japan also conducted an Outreach Seminar on UNSC Reform.
  6. The Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) selected two US and Finnish companies to help destroy Syria’s chemical arsenal. Finland’s company Ekokem and the US subsidiary of French company Veolia Environment would destroy chemical weapon ingredients.
  7. Italy Prime Minister Enrico Letta resigned. Letta belongs to the center-left Democratic Party.  Letta is likely to be replaced by the Democratic Party leader, the mayor of Florence Matteo Renzi.
  8. Researchers with Shanghai institute of Ceramics, Chinese Academy of Science developed a new type of paper that is resistant to fire. The paper will not catch fire even at 1000 degrees Celsius temperature. This new paper is formed from calcium phosphate compound.
  9. Vijayawada-based airline Air Costa signed an agreement with Brazil-based Embraer for 50 Embraer Jets E2s. Air Costa become the first customer of E-Jet E2s in the Indian market. Also, Air Costa will be the first airline to order and operate a large number of regional jets in India.
  10. Union Agriculture Ministry released the Second advance estimates of Crop Production. As per the estimate, Foodgrain production is likely to touch a record of 263.2 million tonnes in 2013-14, as against the benchmark high of 259 million tonnes achieved in 2011-12. This would be the highest foodgrain production ever achieved in the country.
