China has Overtaken India to Become the Largest Contributor of FDI to Nepal

  1. China has overtaken India to become the largest contributor of Foreign Direct Investment to Nepal over the first six months of the current fiscal year. Investment from China reached $174 million between July and December, accounting for over 60 per cent of the total FDI commitment according to latest figure.
  2. National Green Tribunal (NGT) issued a ban on the process of burning of tyres at public places like roads and areas surrounded by residential buildings. The order was passed following the actions of burning tyres during the religious and political possessions by groups as it cause health hazard.
  3. Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) said that it is in the process of developing Unmanned Arial Vehicles (UAVs) to track down Maoists in naxal hit states including Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh. The vehicles will be used by the Central Reserve Police Force to track the locations of the Maoists in even the forests.
  4. Chhattisgarh ranks as the best performing state in most of the key fiscal parameters, according to a Reserve Bank of India study. As per the study, Chhattisgarh has done reasonably well in spending its money in development sector, one of the key parameters to judge States overall performance. Chhattisgarh development expenditure as percent of Gross State Domestic Product is highest in the country.
  5. Shabir Khan, the Health Minister of Jammu and Kashmir resigned from the Council of Ministers due to alleged molestation case. The resignation was received by the state’s Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah.
  6. Union Cabinet cleared the Telangana Bill with minimum changes in it and decided that Hyderabad will not get the status of a Union Territory. Till now, the leaders of Seemandhra demands included grant of a Union Territory to Hyderabad.
  7. RBI released draft Report on Enabling Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) in Payment System Applications. Public Key Infrastructure enabled electronic payment systems that has been introduced by the RBI are – RTGS, NEFT, CBLO, FOREX Clearing, Government Securities Clearing and Cheque Truncation System (CTS).
  8. Hong Kong police successfully dismantled the largest ever found World War II bomb. The bomb was found in the city at the construction site. It was unearthed near a Sikh Temple, residential housing and hotels.
  9. USA may soon allow the talking cars to be mandatory by 2017. The announcement was made by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of the US. Talking cars is the communication technology which enables cars to send out location, speed and direction data 10 times a second.
  10. Kumar Sangakkara, the cricketer of Sri Lankan national team became the second person in the history of Cricket to score a triple century and a century in the same test match. By performing the rare record, he joined Graham Gooch, the former skipper of England team.
