Satya Nadella : First Indian CEO of Microsoft

  1. Satya Nadella was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of Internet Giant Microsoft in Washington. Bill Gates is the founder and first CEO of Microsoft. Nadella is the first Indian to head the Microsoft in its 38-year history.
  2. Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian honour was conferred on cricket maestro Sachin Tendulkar (40) and eminent scientist Prof CNR Rao (79) by the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee. The awards were given at the Durban Hall of the Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi.
  3. Union Ministry of Communications and Information Technology launched the National Cloud under MeghRaj Initiative. The National Cloud is being implemented by National Information Centre (NIC).
  4. United Nation appointed India based Vivek Lall as special advisor on cyber security. Vivek Lall will be responsible for steering the policy framework of the UN in the area of broadband and associated cyber security issues and oversee implementation.
  5. The two-wheeler maker, Hero MotoCorp unveiled a diesel-electric hybrid scooter concept, ‘RNT’, which is probably the world’s first and smallest diesel engine for two-wheelers.
  6. Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare inaugurated the Mother and Child Tracking Facilitation Centre at the National Institute of Health and Family Welfare in New Delhi. Mother and Child Tracking System (MCTS) initiative was launched under National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) in December 2009.
  7. The Delhi Metro was awarded the prestigious Gold Standard Foundation (GSF) certification standard for using the energy efficiently. Delhi Metro became the first ever Railway system in the world with GSF certification standard. GSF standard certification is a globally accepted certification standard for carbon mitigation projects.
  8. The High Level Committee released the Preliminary Report on Status of Women in India. The Committee headed by Pam Rajput was appointed by the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development in February 2012 to understand the status of women since 1989.
  9. Libya government announced that it has destroyed its entire chemical arsenal. It was announced by the Foreign Minister of Libya, Mohammed Abdelaziz. The chemical arsenal destroyed included bombs and artillery shells filled with mustard gas.
  10. Former Pakistan captain Aamir Sohail was appointed chief selector of the national cricket team and also tasked with developing the game in the country.
